Are you thinking of standing for election in May 2018?
On Saturday 3rd March 2018 between 10am and 1pm an event is being held exclusively for prospective election candidates, including existing States Members, so that they are better informed about the issues facing our Island’s industries.
It will be a chance for prospective candidates to talk directly to representatives from the Island’s industries and hear about their main areas of concern and share ideas about strengthening the economy. Amongst the industries attending will be contacts from Finance, Agriculture, Retail, Hospitality, Engineering and Construction, with more to be confirmed. The Chamber of Commerce will also be represented. It will also be an opportunity to talk with officers from the States Greffe about the campaign process and find out about the support available to new members after the election.
This is an informal ‘drop-in’ event in the States Building, commencing with a welcome address from the Bailiff at 10am in the States Chamber.
Lisa Hart, Deputy Greffier of the States said “Anyone contemplating standing for election can attend this event. You don’t have to have formally declared your intention to stand. The objective is to provide would-be candidates with information on the issues that face local industry and enable them to be better informed to answer questions at the hustings and deal with such matters if elected.”
She also said “A lot of people might be thinking about standing, but won’t follow it through because they find the whole process a bit daunting. Hopefully this event will provide people with a better understanding of what is involved and reassurance that help and support is available.”
Anyone interested is invited to come along to the States Members’ entrance of the States building (opposite the statue in the Royal Square) on Saturday 3rd March 2018. Doors will open from 9.45am.
