The hustings meetings for the forthcoming By-Election in St. Helier District 3/4 will start on Wednesday 6th February 2019 at First Tower School and further meetings will also take place on Tuesday 12th February 2019 at Centre Point Nursery (former La Pouquelaye School) and on Thursday 21st February 2019 at the Town Hall. All of the meetings will start at 7pm.
Vote.je will be filming just the first hustings meeting at First Tower School. The filming will be carried out by a professional production company on behalf of vote.je. Vote.je is independently managed by the States Greffe on behalf of the Privileges and Procedures Committee and provides information to the public about the elections. The film will be uploaded to the vote.je website on Thursday 7th February 2019.
It is recognised that some members of the public may not wish to appear on film so at the beginning of the meeting those assembled will be asked if they are comfortable being filmed and, if they are not, then the camera will be fixed on the candidates only.
Deputy Greffier Lisa Hart said “This will allow everyone to watch one of the hustings and find out more about the candidates’ views, even if they are unable to go along in person to the three meetings.”
Turnout for by-elections is not usually very high, so it is important that everyone who is able to vote does so. You can vote in the by-election if you live in the district, are aged over 16 and are registered to vote. If you are not sure which St. Helier district you live in, a full list is available on vote.je/st-helier-3-4/. You can also register online at vote.je/register.
