A qualified British Sign language Interpreter will be signing for the dDeaf community at the final Senatorial hustings on Monday 14th May at St. Helier Methodist Centre.
Deputy Greffier Lisa Hart said “We have worked with the Jersey dDeaf Society to bring over a qualified interpreter so that members of the dDeaf community in Jersey can engage with the hustings process to inform the way they vote on election day on 16th May. Monday marks the start of deaf awareness week so it’s really great that we’ve been able to provide people who are deaf or who have a hearing loss with a greater insight into the local political scene.”
Simon Lupton, Chairperson of the Jersey dDeaf Society said “We are delighted to be part of the vote.je initiative for the first time. The website provides a wealth of information about the election and it is marvellous that the needs of people in the Island who are deaf or who have a hearing loss are being given a focus, allowing them to find out more about candidates’ views through the hustings forum.”
A video of the hustings will be uploaded onto vote.je on Tuesday 15th May.
