Today – 7 June 2025 – the one-year countdown to Jersey’s next election begins. Next year, on Sunday 7 June 2026, Islanders will have the opportunity to vote in Members to a new States Assembly for the following four-year political term through to 2030.

To mark this occasion, Vote.je is urging people who are thinking about standing for election to make a start on their campaign plans now to get ahead of the competition. Potential candidates – and anyone who is curious to find out more about what it takes to become a States Member – are invited to book a free place on a special event where they can:

  • Learn more about the practicalities of standing for election in Jersey
  • Get insights from current Connétables and Deputies about the realities of working as a States Member
  • Speak to the Greffier and Deputy Greffier of the States and seek advice on elections and how the States Assembly and Scrutiny work
  • See inside the States Chamber and get a feel for their potential future work environment

The event comprises a panel discussion and Q&A session with Connétables Andy Jehan and Kevin Lewis, and Deputies Catherine Curtis and Helen Miles. Attendees will also be taken on a tour of the States Chamber.

Vote.je’s campaign manager, Emily Thomas, said: ‘The ‘one-year-to-go’ mark is an important milestone for anyone who’s keen to step up and make a difference in our community. We’re already starting to hear from people who are seeking our advice on standing for election to the States Assembly. Representing Islanders in the States Assembly is a job like no other so it’s essential that new candidates can access insights and guidance from people who have experience of Jersey’s political system. We’re looking forward to opening the doors of the States Chamber on 24 June to those who are still undecided and want to get a feel for the place before they’re ready to go public with their intention to be an election candidate in 2026.’

Tickets for the event are free of charge. Bookings should be made via Vote.je’s Eventbrite page as soon as possible to secure one of the limited places on offer.
