On the evening of Tuesday 24 June, Vote.je is hosting a special event for aspiring election candidates. With just over one year to go until Jersey’s next election on Sunday 7 June 2026, this is an opportunity to find out about standing for election and working as an elected Member in the States Assembly – Jersey’s elected parliament.
Current States Members will take part in a panel discussion about their experience of standing for election and what attendees can expect if they are successfully elected as a States Member. This will be followed by a Q&A session where attendees can put their own questions directly to States Members. Attendees can also find out about the procedural aspects of working as a States Member and standing for election from the Greffier of the States – Lisa Hart, and the Deputy Greffier – William Millow.
The second part of the event features a tour of the States Chamber – an opportunity for attendees to gain first-hand experience of being in the Chamber, sitting in the seats that elected Members take in States Meetings, and learning more about how States Meetings and Scrutiny Hearings work.
Vote.je’s Campaign Manager, Emily Thomas said: ‘We’re rapidly approaching the ‘one year to go’ mark to the 2026 election and it’s vital that candidates are informed and prepared for their campaigning. Vote.je is keen for Islanders to have plenty of choice on their ballot papers at the next election and we want potential candidates to know that we’re here to provide the information and advice that they need.
‘We had such positive feedback from the attendees of our special International Women’s Day event in March that we wanted to grab another opportunity to encourage and enable anyone who’s thinking about standing for election to the States Assembly to take action while there’s time.
‘If you or someone you know is interested in finding out what takes to stand for election to the States Assembly, please book a ticket and join us.’
Tickets for the event are free of charge. Bookings should be made via Vote.je’s Eventbrite page as soon as possible to secure one of the limited places on offer.
