Dear Parishioner

It’s been a privilege to represent you as your Deputy for the past 3½ years. I’m seeking re-election and sincerely hope you feel you can once again trust me with your vote.

Parish: I negotiated with the CI Co-Operative Society, for a much needed bus shelter to be erected on their land at Red Houses. I thank the Society for also agreeing to pay for half the costs from their Community Scheme Fund.

As Assistant Minister for Social Security: with political responsibility for the Back to Work Initiative I instigated an ongoing work experience programme for the long term unemployed to help maintain the Railway Walk.

I’ve held regular surgeries at Communicare. I’ve also helped many parishioners with issues regarding Income Support, Long Term Care and Housing.

New Les Quennevais School: I’ve been involved with the project from the beginning and will continue to support it through to its opening. I’d favour a mixed housing development on the old site.

States Assembly: My attendance has been 100%. I hope my voting pattern has reflected the views and beliefs of those of you who voted for me.

Immigration: The debate to introduce work permits is set for September 2018. I will be supporting this proposition – it’s time to take control!

Economy: There are challenges ahead, particularly with regard to Brexit. The Government is proactively looking to develop new markets around the world. I’d like to take part in developing our economy, see more cruise ships visiting Jersey and would seek solutions to achieve this. A healthy economy is vital to provide the revenue to support public services.

Electoral Reform: I’m in favour of an Island wide mandate and a constitution consisting of 30 Senators and 12 Connétables.

Education: The Trackers apprenticeship scheme has been a great success. We need more up-skilling and training of our young adult workforce. We need to equip them with skill sets for their futures.

Children: We’ve appointed an Independent Children’s Commissioner – a voice for the children, to build a safe child-friendly Jersey. Essential!

Health: We need to provide more dedicated nursing homes for dementia sufferers and additional respite facilities to support their carers.

Hospital: The revised Hospital plans are currently subject to a planning application. An independent Planning Inspector will again determine the plans. Ultimately, the Minister of Planning, after due consideration, will decide. Plan B: St Saviours Hospital site?

Housing Needs: An independent review was recently launched to determine future housing requirements. We are on track to deliver more than 1,000 affordable homes by 2020. We need to build more!

Planning committee: I am passionate about preserving the green zone and Jersey’s natural environment, ensuring what is built, fits harmoniously into its community setting. I would like to continue working on this committee.

There are challenges ahead and it’s not possible to cover every issue in this brief manifesto. I look forward to discussing them with you over the coming weeks.

Please consider voting for me on Wednesday 16th May.

Thank you.
