Phil Romeril

Candidate for Deputy St. Helier North

Jersey born, I have enjoyed the benefits of growing up on this beautiful island. I was educated at St Mary’s School and De La Salle College before going to Aston University in Birmingham for my pharmacy degree.

On returning to Jersey in 1991, I took over the oldest pharmacy on the island, De Faye’s Chemist. My work there enabled me to work closely with people in our community.  A local pharmacy is expert healthcare without an appointment. This, together with the informal non-clinical environment, meant that I established close links with all my customers and gained insights into the day-to-day issues that affected them.

In recent years I worked with the Co-op and was central in establishing free GP appointments for under 5s.

In 2016, I joined the committee of Family Nursing and Home Care (FNHC). I had previously worked with FNHC for 14 years which allowed me to develop a keen understanding of how much the charity does for islanders. I was appointed their Chairperson in 2018 and, together with everyone at FNHC, I am proud of the quality of the services the teams deliver to our community.  Everyone who works for FNHC are central to the island delivering its healthcare system.

Throughout my career I have worked with the Government of Jersey to develop and improve quality and accessibility of healthcare services. There are many incredible people working within healthcare, however it is apparent that the systems and processes simply get in their way. We have all heard people question the delivery, effectiveness, and transparency of the government on our island.  Addressing these issues will unlock the potential of people who work both with and within government, to enable them to deliver expert, best quality services to all islanders.

This is the reason I have chosen to stand with Jersey Alliance. My background is in healthcare; however, I believe improving systems across government will benefit all islanders. Jersey Alliance brings together an extensive range of skilled and experienced individuals, alongside seasoned politicians from both on and off-island, including people with:

  • Business/ commercial backgrounds,
  • Strong histories in voluntary/ charity work,
  • Legal and economic skills

This exceptional mix is only present to this extent within Jersey Alliance.

I ask you to vote for me, and my colleagues within the Alliance, to enable us to bring as much of our skills and experience to bear as possible.

Finally, the island, and its community, has always felt like a home and I believe that is what makes Jersey, and the people who live in it, truly special.  The First Tower Community Association (who can forget the campaign to save the local shop?) is a superb example of what people can achieve on their island. I will work to encourage more of this community spirit across the whole district and indeed the whole island.

Please Vote Phil Romeril for Deputy

Thank you
