My name is Ian Barnes, and I am standing for Deputy in St Helier North because I believe Jersey needs practical leadership, financial discipline, and decisions made with urgency and accountability now.

I was born in St Helier North and, having returned to live in the district, I feel strongly that this is the right time to step forward and serve both the parish and the wider island.

After decades in business, public boards, charitable work, and sector leadership, I bring the experience, sound judgement, and practical decision-making that government urgently requires.

Jersey faces serious challenges. Government spending is outpacing what we generate, borrowing is rising, reserves are under pressure, and too many decisions are taking far too long. The cost of delay is being felt by islanders, families, and businesses alike. This is not a sustainable way forward.

My manifesto is built around three clear priorities: Lower Costs, Faster Decisions, and Accountable Government.

Islanders are under increasing financial pressure. Government must lead by example by reducing wasteful spending, cutting inefficiency, and ensuring taxpayers receive genuine value for money. Every pound spent must be justified and focused on outcomes that matter to the public.

Government must also become more responsive. Delays in planning, infrastructure, public services, and policy decisions hold Jersey back and undermine confidence. Businesses need certainty, and families need solutions, not endless process. I will push for timely, decisive, and practical action at every level.

Public accountability must be restored. Overspending, delays, and poor delivery should no longer be accepted as normal. Islanders deserve transparency, measurable performance, and ministers who take responsibility for results.

I remain deeply committed to tourism, hospitality, and the wider visitor economy, which are central to Jersey’s prosperity, employment, and international reputation. As this industry is vital to our prosperity & identity, it deserves ministerial leadership in its own right. Once elected, I will put myself forward to champion that cause and secure the strategic focus it deserves.

Above all, I will be an independent voice for St Helier North, working families, and the industries that sustain our island economy.

Jersey must remain a place where those who work hard can still afford to build a life, raise a family, and feel confident about the future.

I am standing to restore confidence, improve decision-making, cut waste, support enterprise, strengthen public trust, and ensure Jersey remains strong, competitive, affordable, and fair for future generations.

I would be honoured to have your support, your vote, and your trust to deliver the practical leadership, stronger accountability, and better decisions our island needs now and deserves for the future.
