Martin Aliga: Working to Secure Jersey’s Future for the Next Generation
My candidacy manifests belonging, resilience, and inclusivity, promoting empathy and mutual respect. I am committed to being transparent and approachable, engaging islanders in dialogue to shape workable policies that improve everyday life for everyone on the island.
I am a 47-year-old husband and father of five. I’ve lived in Jersey for 15 years since completing my Master’s Degree in Africa & International Development at Edinburgh University. In 2012 I married Mary Bisson, my Jersey girl.
I aim to serve Jersey as an independent, confident leader in the role of Senator because I believe that being elected, I will amplify the voices of the minority and the voiceless, whilst drawing on my personal experiences of feeling unheard and undervalued by those in authority. Often political leaders are mistrusted; it is time to bring in a leadership determined to shape the next generation by empowering our children and young people who can sustainably carry on the same positive values.
My Bachelor’s Degree was in Development Studies. I left Uganda Christian University as Guild President emeritus, having led a student body of about 10,000 with a record of effective leadership and successful projects.
For four years, I fronted a Jersey police anti-hate campaign. Whether elected or not, I aim to resume this advocacy, using active listening to represent everyone without discrimination.
My manifesto aims to collaboratively address Jersey’s ‘edu-social’ and economic issues impacting on:
- Families, Children & Young People: With roughly 34% of islanders contemplating moving away due to costs and housing remaining top concerns for 54% of Jersey’s population, I put myself forward to positively address this matter by creatively engaging members to put in place affordable and sustainable housing solutions for young families and tenants. Also, I wish to promote a balanced ethos of Rights and Responsibilities, encouraging youngsters to grow up understanding their duties as well as their rights.
- Health & Wellness: Advocating for a holistic approach to health, recognizing alternative pathways alongside traditional medical models, and reducing stigma around counselling as part of primary health care.
- Education: Rethink how much screen time as a learning approach impacts on preschool and primary education limiting practical skills development. I critique the early introduction of screen learning, too much too early narrows the Head, Heart, and Hands approach to education.
Vote for me because as a man of integrity and proactivity, I seek to serve Islanders to secure Jersey’s Future for the Next Generation.

Many thanks,
Martin Aliga
