An independent candidate standing for election as Senator, my objective is clear: deliver tangible, sustainable economic improvements that create opportunities for islanders and strengthen essential public services through prudent, transparent budgeting.
My priorities:
Economy
I support maintaining and enhancing our financial services sector in an increasing competitive international market, since vital to Jersey’s prosperity. Revenue generated supports essential public services and a wide range of livelihoods.
Critical contributions of agriculture, local retail, hospitality, construction and tourism are necessary to support a diverse, vibrant, resilient economy and community well-being.
Our tax framework should remain fair, stable and encouraging of enterprise and personal financial security. I support maintaining the current basic rate of income tax and do not believe capital gains or inheritance tax are appropriate.
I do not support high borrowing and burden created for future generations.
Disciplined, transparent budgeting must underpin every economic objective.
Education & Population
Support and encourage on-island upskilling, maximise development and utilise local resources, seeking off-island recruitment only where strictly necessary.
Ensure facilities and green spaces are provided for schools.
Promote programmes for continual development using further and higher education.
Incentivise students to return to the island following further education.
Controlling immigration by way of work permits.
Housing
Jersey has suffered from years of under-investment in key infrastructure, with deferred investment ultimately costing more and inhibiting growth. We require a strategic approach, safeguarding tax-payers money whilst ensuring Jersey remains modern, competitive and well-connected.
Home ownership is beyond the reach of many. I support affordable housing for all, including key workers and share-ownership.
Utilising empty properties and investigation of obstacles preventing their creation as suitable homes.
Whilst the integrity of historic building is important, ensure policies do not prohibit appropriate modernisation.
Health
The elderly, sick and those less fortunate must receive the necessary protection and support.
A holistic approach with joint agency initiatives should be encouraged and extended, in order to achieve maximum collective effectiveness.
Environment
Passionate about the protection of green spaces and agricultural land.
I support utilising solar panels in all new properties.
Government
It is essential to have transparency across States Departments and Government, in order that everyone understands where money is spent, with clear accountability.
Firm control of public expenditure focused on customer service with lean structures.
About me
