8 spaces are on a slope which is tricky for those with mobility issues.
Access to the building is from all directions on foot and by car so this needs marshalling to keep it safe, there are slopes, uneven tarmac and very few dropped kerbs.
People with disabilities can be dropped outside the premises as a setting down point even if this is not marked.
There is other parking available nearby, connected to other buildings and increases the distance.
The main entrance has a set of double automatic glazed doors into a well-lit non-slip lobby.
The approach is slightly sloped with a short handrail to one side.
The exit from the hall is from the far right fire exit double doors – these will be open on polling day, this route leads into a lobby area to an exit with a wide single automatic glazed sliding door.
This is the library door which would probably be closed on a Sunday allowing for a one-way system.
The metal sill at the threshold of the outer door is not flush with the floor level and may be a trip hazard.
There is a slight slope down with a handrail.
Once inside the lobby, voters turn right through another set of automated, glazed doors.
The floors are level, the light is good but could cause reflection/glare at certain times.
On entering the spacious hall, the voters will bear left to register and move round in a circle to booths situated on the back wall, the ballot box will be situated on the right before the exit on the far right.
Step-free access:
Not applicable – polling room accessed on ground floor.
There is no hearing loop system available.
Assistance dogs are permitted inside the polling station.
If you need to use a screen reader or other assistive technology you’ve brought with you, please speak to a Parish Official (Autorisé or Adjoint).
You can bring someone with you to the polling station, but if you need help filling in your ballot paper, a Parish Official (Autorisé or Adjoint) will help you.
There is one accessible toilet by the library on the way out, the sign on the door is not particularly clear.
The door itself is not suited to a disabled user, nor are the handrails, this toilet does not comply with British Standards.
