Candidate Fayre

On Wednesday 29 April, Vote.je is hosting Jersey’s first ever Candidate Fayre. The event is designed to provide candidates and Islanders with a new opportunity to connect through meaningful conversations.

It offers a rare opportunity to hear directly from the Island’s youngest voters, a group who are typically less likely to attend hustings or vote. In the 2022 election, only 17% of 16-30 year olds voted.

All confirmed candidates will automatically be allocated a stand at the Fayre.

What to expect at the Fayre

  • The event will follow a careers-fayre style format, with each candidate provided with a table, chair, and a sign displaying their name and the role or constituency they are standing for.
  • The focus of the event is to provide the opportunity for conversations to take place, however candidates are welcome to bring a tablecloth, pull-up banner, leaflets etc., to go on their table, should they wish.
  • From 8:30am – 4pm groups of year 11-13 students (aged 15-18) will attend the Fayre. All students will have taken part in a voting awareness lesson, helping them prepare for meaningful conversations with candidates. During this time slots for the public to attend are also available (see above).
  • There will be a 10-minute break between groups and a 30-minute break for lunch, for which sandwiches will be provided.
  • After the student sessions, candidates will have a 2-hour dinner break.
  • The Fayre will then reopen to the general public for wider community engagement.
