CANDIDATE FACTS
- 92 candidates in total
- 29 are women
- 17 candidates for 9 Senatorial seats
- 23 candidates for 12 Connétable seats
- 52 candidates for 28 Deputy seats
- There are 6 Connétable elections contested by more than one candidate
- 16 candidates are from the Reform Jersey party
- 2 candidates are from the People First Party
All those who came forward to stand were successfully processed during the nomination period and had their candidacy confirmed by the JEA.
In the six Parishes where there is only one candidate for the role of Connétable, voters will have the option to vote for ‘None of the Candidates’. This provides an opportunity for voters to voice their opinion if they do not feel that the candidate shares their views and values. Choosing ‘none of the candidates’ is a vote against the candidate running for that position. If ‘none of the candidates’ receives the most votes in any particular Connétable election, no one will be elected and there will be a by-election at a later date.
You can meet the election candidates in person at Jersey’s first Candidate Fayre taking place on Wednesday 29 April at Oakfield Sports Centre on Wellington Hill, St. Saviour. The event is open to the public: 10:30am – 12:30pm; 1:30 – 4:00pm and 6:00 – 8:00pm. Further information about the Fayre can be found online at Vote.je/candidate-fayre.
Candidate manifesto booklets relevant to each constituency will be delivered to all households by Friday 15 May, in addition there will information on all candidates, including a 2-minute video of the candidate speaking their manifesto, which will be available online on Vote.je and YouTube.
Islanders are reminded that those who are eligible have been automatically added to the electoral register. If you are unsure whether you are registered you can check with your Parish. This is particularly important if you have recently moved house or have returned to Jersey after more than 3 months away and not notified any Government Department. The deadline to apply for postal voting is 12 noon on Thursday 30 April. All information can be found online at vote.je/postal or paper forms can be collected from Parish Halls.
Dr Michael Marett-Crosby, Chair of the Jersey Electoral Authority, said ‘The parish authorities and the JEA have together completed the first nomination process using the new Automatic Voter Registration system. AVR offers a simple route to the ballot box for eligible Islanders.
‘Now we enter the campaign period, with hustings for Senators, Deputies and Connétables in every Parish and constituency so that all Islanders can hear the candidates and ask them questions. These hustings will be live streamed and available via the vote.je website to watch later, for those who cannot attend in person.
‘Our Island election is being held for the first time on a Sunday, with polling stations open from 8am to 8pm on Sunday 7 June. Pre-polling will be open at St Paul Centre from 26 May – 1 June.
‘It is so important to our shared future that we all exercise our right to vote. Every voice matters.’
